AROUND MAQUOKETA
8-5-02
The City Council has discussed
the City’s need for an ordinance that would address dangerous
buildings. Maquoketa does not currently have an ordinance that would
address this issue. City
staff has been directed to contact some other cities to see if
copies of such ordinances can be obtained.
Council members passed the first
reading of an ordinance that will rescind the building code
ordinance that was to be effective July 1, 2002 as Council members
were unable to come up with a fee schedule that could be agreed
upon. There will be two
more readings of this ordinance.
Brian Wagner and Judy Carr have
been authorized by Council to sign and file the necessary paperwork
for Federal Assistance from FEMA.
FEMA representatives will be spending time in Maquoketa
writing up Project Worksheets for various areas in town that were
damaged during the flood.
The City has gotten all of the
necessary temporary and permanent easements for the East Platt and
West Platt Street Trail Project.
The easements have been approved by the City Council.
The City Council has agreed to
proceed with the Land Use Study for Maquoketa.
This study will be completed by ECIA and will help with
planning for the City’s future.
The City recently sent out a
survey to approximately 200 residents in Maquoketa.
This survey is to inquire whether or not the citizens in the
targeted area are interested in a storm water control project for
the east side of the City. As
of this writing, it looks like the City has received enough
responses to meet the requirements to apply for a grant for the
project.
The City Council approved the
final plat for the Prairie Creek Center.
A public hearing has been set for Monday, August 19th
to hear comments about the plans, specifications and form of
contract.
