The Flood of 2002

6-6-02

Below are photos of the South Main Street/Old Highway 61 area.  These photos were taken in June 4, 2002.

1.)  S. Main Street, adjacent to Horseshoe Pond Park.

2.) These are the restrooms/showers in the park.  In the back is a camper that was left in the park.

3.)  This is the Salvation Army/Citadel Building which is located in the park.

4.)  This is the South Slope Lift Station that is located in the park.

Below are photos that were taken on June 5.  This is in the north part of the City, along the Maquoketa River.

5.)  This is the Maquoketa River at the new bridge that is located on N Main Street.

6.)  This is North Main Street.  The street was closed from Pershing Road to Grove Street.

7.)  This is the Maquoketa Public Works Office.

8.)  This is MMEU's electrical power plant.

9.)  This is the lab/office at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  This is where the electronics that currently run the plant are located.  At one point, it was feared that the flood might threaten these controls, but sandbags and a pump were set up to help keep the water level down inside the building.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant is undergoing renovation that is scheduled to end in October, 2002.  Within a month the controls for the updated plant will be moved to a building that happens to be on higher ground.

10.)  This is a commercial area that is near N Main/Pershing Road.  This photo shows a greenhouse and two campers that were flooded.

11.)  This is another view of the same commercial area as above.
