The Flood of 2002

Below are photos of the South Main Street/Old
Highway 61 area. These photos were taken in June 4, 2002.
1.) S. Main Street, adjacent to Horseshoe
Pond Park.

2.) These are the restrooms/showers in the
park. In the back is a camper that was left in the park.

3.) This is the Salvation Army/Citadel
Building which is located in the park.

4.) This is the South Slope Lift Station
that is located in the park.

Below are photos that were taken
on June 5. This is in the north part of the City, along the
Maquoketa River.
5.) This is the Maquoketa
River at the new bridge that is located on N Main
Street.

6.) This is North Main
Street. The street was closed from Pershing Road to Grove
Street.

7.) This is the Maquoketa Public Works
Office.

8.) This is MMEU's electrical
power plant.
9.) This is the lab/office at
the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is where the
electronics that currently run the plant are located. At one
point, it was feared that the flood might threaten these controls,
but sandbags and a pump were set up to help keep the water level
down inside the building.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant is
undergoing renovation that is scheduled to end in October,
2002. Within a month the controls for the updated plant will
be moved to a building that happens to be on higher ground.
10.) This is a commercial
area that is near N Main/Pershing Road. This photo shows a
greenhouse and two campers that were flooded.
11.) This is another view of
the same commercial area as above.
