IRIS
Channel 18 has enlisted the Iowa Radio Reading
Information Service know as IRIS to broadcast to the blind and print
handicapped.
IRIS provides 24-hour programming which includes
daily reading of the Des Moines Register, Iowa City Gazette, Iowa
City Press Citizen and other locally published magazines and community
publications which are read by volunteers.
In addition to local programming, IRIS also relays
the readings of over 50 newspapers and magazines received via satellite
from national networks, including In Touch Network of New York and
Radio Talking Book of St. Paul, Minnesota. Programming includes
The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Audubon Time and Smithsonian
as well as special programs of concern to blind and print handicapped
and physically challenged individuals.
