Mission Statement
To provide recreational opportunities that reflect the interests
and needs of all people in the Maquoketa Community, and to develop
and maintain quality parks and facilities that enhance the City
of Maquoketa.
Make the most of your leisure time by participating
in a Maquoketa Parks & Recreation activity or in a program offered
by one of the many groups in the community.

Community Center Rentals
Facilities are made available to groups in the City for Cultural,
Educational or Recreational activities. Rooms are available for
receptions, celebrations or business meetings. Seating to accommodate
up to 250 people. For room availability and rental fees, please call
(563) 652-5292.
Program Information
Registrations for all programs take place at the Maquoketa Parks
& Recreation Office located at the Maquoketa Community
Center. Registrations can be made in person at our office, by mail or
by use of the outside drop box, located at the
center. Late registration can alter team sizes, scheduling and
the entire process of coordinating a season. Therefore, all
programs have a registration deadline. A late registration will be
placed on a waiting list pending placement. A late registration fee
will be added to the original fee. REGISTER EARLY!
WEATHER CANCELLATIONS
All youth and adult Parks & Recreation activities will be
cancelled when school is dismissed early or cancelled for the day
due to inclement weather. Individuals and teams will not be
called when the cancellations occur. Cancellations will be
announced on KMAQ Radio 1320
AM or 95.1 FM.
Employment
The Maquoketa Parks & Recreation Department hires part-time staff
and instructors throughout the year. If you are willing to share
your talents and interests with people to improve their quality
of life, we may have an opportunity for you. Positions available
include: referees, umpires, lifeguards, etc.
Walking For Wellness - Winter Hallwalkers Program
Doors are opened to encourage all individuals to take part in walking
to improve their health. Every mile you walk burns 60-100 calories.
Begin a regular walking program today to feel your best. (While
school is in session)

Bike Paths
There is an existing bike path within the city limits. The route
is 4.5 miles and is marked by directional signs.
Pedestrian Path
The Pedestrian Path extends from the west edge of the city and proceeds east on Summit
St. on to Jacobsen Dr. then east on
Platt Street to Western Avenue, and south to Summit Street.
Winterfest Coed Open Volleyball Tournament
High quality tournament with eight teams participating. Date:

Father Burlingame Tennis Tournament
Father Burlingame was introduced into the Jackson County Historical
Society Hall of Fame in October of 2000. The annual tournament is held at Fifth Ward Park. It is open to
all kids in Jackson County or to students who have taken tennis
lessons from the Community Education Program. This
event is held in August. Singles, Doubles and Parent/Child Doubles competition.
Karate
Karate is held at the Maquoketa Community Center on Mondays and
Thursdays from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Contact (563) 652-5292 for more information.
Volunteer
Be a volunteer for Maquoketa Parks & Recreation. You can make our
community more attractive by helping out. Volunteer
positions are available all year round. Take part in diamond cleanup,
park cleanup, coaching, assistant coaching, refereeing, or umpiring.

Sponsorship
Area groups and residents have opportunities to sponsor a variety
of recreational activities.

Each year the Parks & Recreation Commission publishes a guide
which informs the public about a variety of activities and programs
available.
Adult Open Gym
Volleyball is held Monday nights at the Cardinal
Elementary. Begins the first Monday in October. Basketball
is held Wednesday nights at the Cardinal Elementary. Begins
the first Wednesday in October. Women's Basketball is held
Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. at the Maquoketa High School.
Begins the first week in November.
Leagues
Adult basketball, volleyball & tennis, youth basketball, soccer,
baseball, and softball.
Instructional camps
Wrestling, basketball, baseball and soccer.
Park Shelter Reservation
Reservations can be made one year to date ahead of time for $25.oo
. If the shelters are not reserved, they may be used on a
first come, first served basis. For reservations or
information, call the Maquoketa Community Center (563) 652-5292.
Donations/Memorials
The Maquoketa Parks & Recreation Commission has a yearly operational
budget for line items, and has developed a capital improvement plan
for long range projects. Monetary donations in any amount are
greatly appreciated. Memorials are also accepted. Commemorative
plaques are attached to the donated items.
