Parks
First Ward Park
This park is located at E. Quarry St. and E. Apple St. It contains
a horseshoe pitching area, a lighted basketball court, playground
equipment, a picnic shelter with tables, an ice rink, and restroom
facilities.
Second Ward Park
Otherwise known as Little Bear Park on W. Quarry St. and W. Apple
St., Second Ward Park provides individuals with a softball field,
a grass volleyball area, playground equipment, a picnic shelter
with tables, and a restroom facility.
Third Ward Park
This park is located on the corner of S. Eliza St. and E. Summit
St. It connects with the community center and parking lot, and the
swimming pool. There is a kick-ball/basketball court, playground
equipment, and picnic tables.
Fifth Ward Park
Fifth Ward Park is on W. Summit St. and includes a softball field,
two lighted tennis courts, a sand volleyball area, a basketball
court, playground equipment, two parking lots, a restroom facility,
and two picnic shelters with tables.
City Ball Park
It is located on W. Grove St. There are two lighted baseball fields,
new playground equipment, two tennis courts on the reservoir, a concession
stand, restroom facilities, and a boat ramp access to the river,
off N. Fifth St.
Crawford Park
This small park on N. Dearborn St. has playground equipment, picnic
tables, and park benches.
Horseshoe Pond Park
This is the largest of the community parks and is located on S.
Main St. There is a disc golf. a fishing pond, camping sites, RV camp sites,
sanitary dump station, a grass volleyball area, playground equipment, picnic shelters with
tables, and a restroom and shower facility and Welcome Center
Electric - $12.00/day: Primitive - $5.00/day.
Meadowdale III Playground
This is a very small park on Lisa Drive. It has one wood playground
structure.
Shore Line River Trail / Boat Ramp
This project is located on the south Fork Maquoketa River
between old Hwy. 61 (N. Main St.) on the east end, and North Arcade
Street on the west, near the city's north boundary. Activities
include walking, jogging, fishing, picnicking, benches for rest and
relaxation, access to adjacent environmental areas; and to generally
enjoy nature and the scenery along the River through all seasons.
County Softball Park
Located on Quarry Street; picnic tables; playground equipment;
batting cage; restrooms; and two softball fields.
Bicentennial Park
A county park located on W. Grove St. with fitness stations and
a walking path.
Maquoketa Skate Park
The City's newest park located on N. Main Street near the Maquoketa
River. There is a variety of obstacles to challenge
skaters, as well as a roller hockey court with goals.
Park & Shelter Reservations
Shelter reservation can be made one year to the date ahead of time. Cost
for the shelters is $25.00. Reservations should be paid for at the
time they are made. If shelters are not reserved, they may be used
on a first come, first served basis. For reservations or if you
have any questions, call the Maquoketa Community Center at 652-5292.
Adopt-A-Park
Area groups (scouts, civic, professional, student) have an opportunity
to help in the city's parks. Monthly cleanings, with materials provided
by the city if requested, are needed in order to beautify city parks.
Routine yearly maintenance tasks have been identified, and are available
for adoption by area groups.
Sponsorship
Area groups and residents have opportunities to sponsor a variety of
recreational activities throughout the year. Examples
include: Youth baseball/softball teams $250, Youth
baseball/softball teams $50-100 and Leisure Guide $125.
Donations/Memorials
The city parks & recreation commission has a yearly operational
budget for line items, and has developed a capital improvement plan
for long range projects. Monetary donations in any amount are greatly
appreciated, and can be made via the Maquoketa Area Foundation.
Memorials are also accepted with appropriate commemorative plaques
so attached to an item.
