Tree Board
It shall be the responsibility of the Tree Board to study, investigate, counsel and develop and/or annually administer a written plan for the care, preservation, pruning, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, along streets and in other public areas. Such plan will be presented annually to the City Council and upon their acceptance and approval shall constitute the official comprehensive City tree plan for the City of Maquoketa, Iowa.
Typically, the Tree Board receives a City budget of $25,000 to plan for the management of trees in the community in addition to any grants in which the board may receive. This allows the community to receive extended benefits.
The City's Tree Board also helps the annual Tree City USA application which Maquoketa routinely receives recognition for.
The term of the five persons to be appointed by the Mayor shall be three years except that the term of two of the members appointed to the first board shall be for only one year and the term of two members of the first board shall be for two years.
