Downtown Incentives Board

The Downtown Incentives Board recommends financial support to new and existing business seeking to make property improvements in the Central Business District. As of 2022, the City's annual budget and tax increment financing claims plan for approximately $90,000 in spending for local business property improvements.

Examples of improvements include exterior painting, new windows, new awnings, signage, etc.

The intention is to give Maquoketa's downtown district a facelift. Each business is capped at a maximum award of $15,000 in order to equitably serve other potential applicants. The program is based on reimbursement to the owners after improvements are made and verified by City Staff. Funding itself is set by the City's annual budget and is based on first come, first served with consideration from the Downtown Incentives Board. The Downtown Incentives Board makes a recommendation to the City Council for action.
