Tenant Background Check
In accordance with the City of Maquoketa ordinance, 3-19-12 owners and managers of all rental housing must comply with a tenant background check.
The rental permit holders shall obtain a criminal background check through the Maquoketa Police Department on all persons 18 years of age or older. The Maquoketa Police Department will generate an activity report from the Iowa Courts online and a report from the Iowa Sex Offender registry and the National Sex Offender website maintained by the United States Department of Justice.
Additional Requirements Include:
- Additional appropriate background information
- Acknowledgement that the City does not indicate any preference or recommendation on the selection of a tenant.
The criminal background check can be waived if the landlord can demonstrate that an independent reference check was completed.
